…the initiating piece of the Kimono Pilot project … and inspired by the boro noragi vintage kimono garments and the receipt of a collection of traditional Japanese cotton prints… I am grateful for all the participants of the pilot project who were the mentors and the instigators in my ‘getting this one finished!
The extensive stitching in this garment represents the “ley lines”—the energetic connections between significant points in my evolution as a textile artist. Influenced heavily by the Japanese tradition of boro (mended textiles), the piece also features the dragonfly.
In many cultures, the dragonfly symbolizes transformation, adaptability, and spiritual wisdom, serving as a quiet reminder of growth for everyone it passes.
